Wedding planning is no small feat. The 'planning' stages often occur over several months (even years!)

Then there's the 'sorting and delegating' stage and, of course, the big day itself, when emotions are sky-high and multiple things happening simultaneously. It's a lot to think about.

This is where we hope these tips in this post offer some comfort and clarity.

After all, planning a wedding doesn't need to be stressful, and finding a wedding venue that helps you every step of the way will certainly reduce the hard work.

Here at Primrose Hill Farm, our family-run team prides itself on helping couples create the most incredible and memorable celebrations. Continue reading to discover our top wedding day tips!

Wedding Day Tips

You might expect us to say, "Plan well in advance!" But everyone knows the practicalities of that are not so easy.

Instead, if we were a couple looking to get married, we'd start with a sheet of paper, a pen, and some time to think.

A simple exercise is a 'brain dump,' where you scribble your thoughts, questions, ideas, and annoyances on the same paper.

This is great for headspace as it helps you get everything out of your mind, freeing you up for more pressing activities.

You can then create ‘categories’ from the brain dump and logically arrange your writing.

Ultimately, when it comes to wedding planning, it's about creating pockets of focused time to lay out the plans and think in logical steps.

In the early stages of wedding planning, consider things like:

  • The best locations for you

  • The right time of year (season-wise)

  • The style of wedding you'd like

  • Your budget

  • Your guests

This list will help keep you on track and most importantly, help you to focus on the big first-step decisions.

Wedding Venues

Finding the right wedding venue will probably be at the top of the list as so much of the planning flows once you have made this choice.

It's a good idea to visit several venues to get a feel for each, as you might be surprised how one captures your attention more than others. Obviously, venues' style and layout (and cost!) are a major part of the decision process.

However, it's also worth considering the intangible things, such as the welcome and approach of the venue team, as they are key to making your perfect day a reality.

Of course, we would gladly welcome you to visit Primrose Hill Farm for a tour, so please contact us for weddings in 2025 and beyond. You can also view our wedding brochure here.

Here at Primrose Hill Farm, we offer personal guided tours. On these tours, you can see every element of the Farm Barns, Orchard Barn preparation rooms, and wider landscaped gardens and grounds.

There is also time to sit down over a drink and chat through all your ideas and aspirations, which are key in building the foundations for a fabulous wedding day.

Our legendary pop-up restaurant is also open on selected dates. You can drop in to take an informal look around and sample some of our chefs' incredible dishes and cocktails too.

The Monthly Countdown

Creating a monthly planner so you can tick off your list of tasks is a great way to stay focused. This will include all the exciting tasks, including finding the perfect dress, choosing your perfect menu, and sending out the invitations.

We have created a fantastic online wedding planner at Primrose Hill Farm. The bespoke planner is provided to every couple upon booking their wedding day with us.

The planner offers a simple step-by-step guide to the various elements and timelines you may wish to have on your wedding day, alongside handy resources such as dining table layout options, supplier recommendations, and a catalog of all our in-house decorative items, which are free of charge.

Alongside the planner, it's also key to have those all-important planning sessions with your wedding team at key stages throughout the run-up to your wedding.

Make sure you take time to have these important sessions, as they really help you pull together all your ideas and are also a great deadline to get things done by a certain time.

We love these planning meetings; they're a great opportunity to understand exactly what you want from your wedding celebrations.

Our complimentary tasting days are pivotal, and you'll be invited to join us for your personal one-to-one tasting session approximately 6 – 9 months before your wedding day.

Not only is this a fabulous opportunity to sample your short-listed menu options, wines, and cocktails, but it is also the time when you and our helpful event managers can piece together every element of your day.

Whilst our friendly team is always on hand either by email, phone, or in person for any handy tips or advice, we also ensure that we have a final details call some 6 weeks prior and then another 2 weeks prior to make sure we have every element covered to ensure the perfect day.

Most importantly, the biggest thing to remember throughout this time is to enjoy it! Planning your wedding day is all part of the excitement, and a great, fun build-up will ensure you enjoy the celebrations to the max.

The Morning Of The Wedding

The morning of your wedding is filled with anticipation and excitement. We recommend starting with a good breakfast to keep your energy levels up throughout the day. It’s a great idea to have a quiet moment to centre yourself and take a few deep breaths before the celebrations begin.

Spend time with your bridal party, best friends, and closest family members.

A little laughter and shared excitement go a long way in setting a positive tone for the day.

Of course, schedule time for hair and makeup artists to do their magic, allowing plenty of time for each person in your wedding party.

The Orchard Barn preparation rooms here at Primrose Hill Farm provide the perfect setting for this.

Available from 7:30 a.m., with complimentary champagne, flapjacks, cookies, fruits, and teas, it's the ideal space to enjoy those special moments with your closest family and friends as you prepare for your big day.

Wedding Day Timeline

Creating a wedding day timeline helps encourage a smooth flow on the big day itself.

Your wedding planner or day-of coordinator should help ensure everything runs smoothly—just ensure they know your plans.

Having a (semi-flexible) schedule keeps everyone on track, from the first look to the last thing you do at the end of the night.

Our family-run, friendly team here at the Farm will be on hand from the moment you arrive to ensure all your wedding plans are put into action.

From setting up and decorating the Ceremony Barn and Dining Barns to ensuring everything keeps on track so you don’t have to worry, you will have a dedicated lead Event Manager looking after every aspect throughout the day.

Wedding Ceremony

The wedding ceremony is often seen as the heart-led part of a wedding day. It's also a great chance to incorporate wedding traditions that are meaningful to you and your partner.

Our wedding day team will help run your ceremony in conjunction with the Registrar or celebrant to ensure everyone is where they need to be at the right time and the music is on key.

Nerves will be high, so this is when you need a friendly face and a confident hand from our team to help you enjoy such a precious moment.

After the ceremony, the drinks reception offers a wonderful time to mingle with guests and celebrate. Ensure your wedding photographer captures those joyful confetti shots and candid moments.

First Dance (and Wedding Shoes!)

The first dance is certainly one of the wedding reception's more memorable, romantic parts.

Choose a special song for you both, and of course, get some practice in the weeks beforehand. Once the dance floor opens up, it’s time to let loose and have fun.

This is a hot tip from us! When choosing your wedding outfit and shoes, consider the dancing you'll do. Opt for comfort if you can…

Little Details and Extra Time

Our motto is: Don’t let the small stuff stress you out!

Focus on the present moment and enjoy your wedding day as it unfolds, moment by moment. Let your wedding venue deal with the small stuff—we are here for that!

Little details, like a handwritten note from your partner or a special wedding day run playlist, can add a personal touch to the day if you'd like to do this.

Allow extra time in your wedding day schedule for unforeseen circumstances, too. This way, if something takes longer than expected, it won’t throw off the entire day.

It's a good idea to space out the day's plans, such as cake cutting, cocktails, games, the first dance, etc. Cramming things in leads to higher stress and less enjoyment.

Our team will help you do that in all those meetings and calls leading up to your wedding, so it runs like clockwork on the day. Less is more in that sense.

Wedding Photography and Memories

Outstanding wedding photography is about far more than just 'posed' shots. A good photographer will capture the natural emotions and candid moments that make your wedding day unique.

Take some quiet moments throughout the day to step back and take it all in.

After the big day, watching your wedding photos and videos will help you relive those special moments.

Summary

1. Plan Ahead: With your wedding planner, create a detailed wedding day timeline that includes all the major moments, from the morning preparations to the end of the night.

The Primrose Hill Farm online Wedding Planner and our helpful planning are on hand throughout your wedding journey to help you with all your plans.

2. First Look: Consider a first look before your wedding ceremony. A first look is where you check up on the setup and appearance of your ceremony, dining tablescapes, etc., before the day begins to ensure everything is just as you envisaged it.

Primrose Hill Farm has dedicated barns for your Ceremony and Dining so everything can be beautifully laid out and dressed the morning of your wedding rather than needing to be quickly turned around during the drinks reception.

Check that any venue you are considering offers this, as it leads to a much less stressful set-up and enables total flexibility with the flow of your day and the level of detail of the décor. The photographers love it, too, so they can get incredible shots of the tablescape you have been planning for months before your guests descend!

3. Extra Minutes: Make extra time for each part of your day. This helps keep everything running smoothly, even if there are delays.

Our events all run like clockwork, but we are a super flexible team that can make sure there is always time for those unexpected but wonderful wedding day moments that can arise.

4. Good Breakfast: Start your day with a good breakfast to keep your energy levels high.

In addition to the complimentary offering in our Orchard Barns, chefs are on hand to provide you with pre-ordered dining options for the morning.

5. Quiet Moment: Take regular moments to breathe and relax on the morning of your wedding.

Our Orchard Barn's cosy sofas and on-tap coffee, teas, juices and champagne (!) will ensure calm and clarity prevails.

6. Family Photos: Consider scheduling family photos during your drinks reception to save time later in the day for partying.

A constant backdrop of beautiful settings means that there is always a great spot on hand for those all-important photos here at the Farm.

7. Golden Hour: Utilise the natural light during the golden hour of the day, when the sun is coming down, for stunning photos.

Sunsets at Primrose Hill Farm are our specialty! With huge skies and a distant horizon over rolling fields, the setting sun is pure magic.

8. Day-Of Coordinator: Have a day-of coordinator to manage the schedule and handle any issues.

Weddings at Primrose Hill Farm have a team of friendly managers who look after you at every stage of the day. From Donna, Jane, or Liane, who will welcome you as you arrive first thing at the Orchard Barns, to the late-night team of Slywia and Paul, who will ensure the party flows right to the very end.

9. Enjoy the Moment: Focus on enjoying the present moment and don’t stress about the small stuff….that’s what we're here for!

10. Personal Touches: Incorporate personal touches like handwritten notes or special playlists to make your day uniquely yours. You make the plans and we'll ensure the moment happens.
